What is the best Caribbean island to vacation on? The main things we're looking for are beauty, romance, fun, and good snorkeling. We also love a spectacular sunset. We'd like to not spend too much money, but if we must spend a lot for the best, we're willing to do it. Also, we can only go after Christmas, or in the summer. Please ONLY answer this if you've actually spent vacation time on the island you're recommending. Please give details about your experiences there. Lots of advice is encouraged! Thanks.

Best Caribbean island vacation? My wife and I have been to Aruba, Jamaica, Cancun, and Costa Rica. We are trying to decide between trying something new or going back to Aruba. We are currently looking into St. Martin mostly, but will consider alternate suggestions. The things we love about Aruba: Direct, nonstop flights from DC; it's relatively safe - you don't see guys walking around with machine guns patrolling the borders of your hotel/compound; Awesome restaurants and food; beautiful beaches and snorkeling; excellent bus system-cheap and easy so you don't need a rental car; plus casinos and nightlife. We are looking at St.Martin because they also have direct flights from DC, but we will consider other destinations too. Does anyone have an opinion on where we should go? Yes, we've been to the Mediterranean and would love to go back but airfare right now is a bit outrageous. Mallorca is our dream retirement destination!
best caribbean island vacation sept 20-30th ?! without hurricanes!? I was planing a vaca between the dates above and have just become aware that that is prime hurricane season for the islands. I anted to go to st.maarten becuse of the french & dutch & caribbean combined but its not gonna be fun if it storms the whole time so Im looking for another option for the same time period and I need a beech vaca not london or somethin like that. any opinions would be greatly appreciated. I get to choose the island, but I don't know which one. I have started to research, but there are just so many possibilities. I have narrowed my search down to dutch or french speaking islands because I would like our trip to be out of the ordinary and I actually want to learn something about the dutch or french cultures. We're planning a Caribbean vacation (couple and boys ages 4 and 7). Which island is best (and safest!)? We've been to the British Virgin Islands twice (renting villas both times), and cannot make enough wonderful comments about the islands, beaches, food, friendliness, and safety. BVI is highly recommended! But now we're looking to go to a different island, keeping in mind safety first. We want a location where the locals are friendly but don't approach us on the beach to braid hair, buy trinkets (or ...), panhandle, etc. Security guards on the beaches and at the resort gates would not make me feel relaxed on vacation! We'd rather be somewhere where that level of security is not necessary. We like going to local restaurants (not American franchises), kid-friendly attractions, and excellent beaches (especially with calm water) are a must. We are NOT looking for a cruise or a big Sandals-type all-inclusive resort. Thanks for all suggestions.

Would your husband let you go on a wives only trip to a Caribbean Island vacation? My girlfriends are planning a trip to St. Lucia for wives only. It is 3 of them and possibly me. They want 4 so we can do 2 per room. These other women's husbands go on hunting and golf excursions throughout the year on weekends. To reciprocate, their husbands give them an all wives week vacation once per year. I have a problem, my husband won't let me go. He goes nowhere during the year. He has no hobbies so he does not feel the need to reciprocate. This is a problem for me. These women are my best friends and this means a lot to me but my husband is insecure. How do i convince him to let me go. I have tried talking to him and my friends tried talking to him and he will not budge. Last night he told me that I would be opening myself up to cheat because young men are hitting on 40 something year old women these days because of the Cougar phenomenon. I turned my back on him in bed and have not spoken to him yet. I am becoming bitter and he is pushing me away. I have no desire for sex with young men on an island. I think he watches too many movies. How do I get through to an insecure and controlling husband like this? I know one thing, if he makes this difficult on me, he is driving a huge wedge between us. I'm going on vacation with a friend and her family this summer, and they're having problems planning and deciding where to go, so I told them i'd try to help out. None of us have ever been to the caribbean before. They want to stay at an all inclusive resort, somewhere that has a lot to do for adults (my friend and i are 19 and 18, then her parents...parents are okay with drinking/partying, and we love adventuring and being active) but not crazy overpopulated with tourists. we want to be around people but not be suffocated ha. What are the best Caribbean islands for snorkeling? We are avid snorkelers and our vacation plans are based ONLY on the HOW GOOD the SNORKELING IS! We are aware of the much publicized devastation of coral reefs over the last couple of years. Last year we tried Grand Cayman and were disappointed. Lots of dead or bleached coral all over. Since it was our first time there we couldn't tell if it was from the recent damage. Where is the snorkeling less affected, in other words, where it is just as good now as it was several years ago? We would prefer a place where there is enough good snorkeling you can do on your own without having to go on a boat and be subject to the boat's schedule. Thanks! Thanks everyone! I forgot to mention that we want to go somewhere NEW (for us), and we've already done some great snorkeling at BVI (including St. John), Bonaire, Cozumel, and Belize, as well as Grand Cayman. We are thinking about Turks & Caicos, Antigua, or Curacao. Someone told me that in Turks & Caicos, the coral has not been affected.

Cheap caribbean vacation for week before Christmas? I'm trying to book a cheap Caribbean vacation for two (Bahamas, Virgin Islands, St. Martin, DR, or Cancun, or similar) for the week before Christmas. When I get on the websites, they advertise a price, but as soon as I enter my details (travel dates, etc.) the price quadruples. What am I doing wrong? I am willing to fly back on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day -- I thought this would make it cheaper but perhaps I am wrong? What dates would make it come up as the advertised price? I can be flexible (leaving anywhere between December 16th and 20th, coming back anywhere between 20th and 25th). Which dates/destinations would give me the best deals? Also, any recommendations as to specific destinations? Or places to book other than the websites that I have had the above mentioned problems with? I just want it to be simple! I really need help planning a caribbean vacation? I am trying to find the best 2 or 3 islands to pursue for a Feb 08 Vacation with the family. 2 adults and 7 and 5 year old boys. We want a 2 bedroom villa on the beach with a pool. Cost is not an issue. I just don't know which islands to pursue. Thanks.

what are the unknown and remote vacation places found in the Caribbean? ? I am planing a surprise for my husband. we are both very active people and we like discovering new places. Suggestions for a "Mommy & Daddy Only" Caribbean Vacation? First a little background: Wife and I have been married for 8 years and have 14 month old twin girls! We haven't been on an actual vacation in about 2 years since before we had the girls. We're looking to cash in some airline points and go someplace fun for a week this summer. We REALLY like islands, and want to go someplace where we can relax while still having the option of going out at night and doing a little partying! Not interested in "lifestyle" type resorts like Hedonism, but we still want an adults only resort with no kids. Any suggestions based on personal experience? FYI: Past vacations have two western caribbean cruises on Princess & Carnival, Sandals Jamaica Ocho Rios, St. Maarten, St. Barts, Cancun, Riviera Maya, Oahu, Kauai, Cabo, and Grand Caymens. Thinking of St. Lucia but airline miles rules would have us making 4 stops before arriving late in the evening!

My best friend and I would like to go to the Caribbean and are looking into costs, locations, packages, etc. We are 2 single females in our mid twenties, so something not full of children and more tailored for our age group would be best. What would be the best Royal Caribbean cruise ship? My family consists of my parents who are 57 and 51, my brother who will be 21 at the time and myself at 18 years old. I'm planning our vacation for this summer and we're taking a Royal Caribbean cruise somewhere in the Caribbean--probably the western islands. It's our first cruise but we have no idea which ship is a good choice since there are so many of them..any suggestions? or even a different cruise line if you think a different one would be better for my family.
