What is the most recommended island in Greece to visit?

We are going to Greece on vacation on the first week of October. We are going to visit Athens. The travel agent gave us the choice to visit one of the Greek Islands. What Island is the best in terms of nice beaches and lively atmosphere and nightlife at this time of year. Another question, is there nice beaches in Athens?

1. I think the most recommended (and populated with tourists) is Santorini. I would think one of the less popular islands might be quieter, though.
2. islands for nightlife: mykonos, santorini, zakinthos, paros. for quiet: poros, hydra, spetses for ppl in love: santorini, andros, skopelos nice islands also are lefkada, kefallonia and corfu. mykonos is most expensive on the list with rooms up 300 euro at least per night. poros is quite cheap adn very scenic, as well as skopelos in athens they have nice beaches such as: varkiza, glyfada, kalamaki

5. For this time of year it is better to visit Paros(nightlife + beaches), Mykonos (nightlife + beaches) or Santorini(Romantic place + nightlife).
6. CRETE....i have visited most of the greek islands but i think Crete is the top. personally i cant wait to go again the beaches there are a dream. have a nice holiday (oh and dont expect good beaches in athens)
7. Santorini is considered of as the most interesting Greek island. Reasons: -Beautiful landscapes -Romantic -Lively -Adveturous -there is the only visible volcano in Greece there -There is nightlife but not too much I don't know about the beaches but I bet they are good.
