Any suggestions for a three or four day getaway to one of the lower Caribbean islands?

I'm looking for somewhere in the lower Caribbean, like from Martinique south.

  1. Grand Cayman is absolutely lovely, but it's very pricey. it's been years since I went there, but from what I remember, the exchange rate was pretty crappy.
  2. Barbados, the south beach is the party part of the island, hole town, which is along the west coast, is more laid back with other restaurants. There is a place along the south coast, that is an old fishing village that has a bunch of shacks for fresh fish cooking. If you go there do a little reading and you will have a great time.
  3. ST. Maartens its only 36miles square 1/2 french, 1/2 dutch with lots of beaches and night life! Lots of water sports and a lot of tourist places will give you at par exchange
  4. The culebra island of puerto rico, very good beach snorkeling, cheap airfare, $40 hotels
  5. PUERTO RICO IS REALLY GREAT! ESPECIALLY IF YOU GO UP INTO THE EL YUNQUE RAIN FOREST AND LUQUILLO BEACH. THE EL MORRO IS A GREAT HISTORICAL PLACE TO VISIT AWESOME VIEW FROM UP TOP.
  6. I'd go with Barbados. Plenty of nightlife any day of the week, the island is small enough where you can see most of it in just a couple days. The island's weather is also nice most of the year with little problems even during hurricane season. July & August is Cropover time which is their carnival season. Plenty of parties and cultural events. Beautiful beaches, party boats & tours visiting the Mount Gay & Malibu Rum distilleries are just a few things to do. You can go ATV riding, spend the day at the beach doing watersports, or just relax. There are a lot of nice restaurants around the island. If I were you, I'd stay in the South areas since it's more central. Look at hotels or apartments in the St. Lawrence Gap (unless music bothers you at night since it's the hub of nightlife down there), Worthing and Rockley are all close enough to do a lot by foot (grocery shopping, banks, restaurants, plenty of small hotels & apts on the beach). If you stay on the West Coast, there are nice beaches as well, though you may want to rent a car if you want to get around(or you can rely on the island's public transportation). You can also hire a taxi, though this can get costly depending on where you want to go. St. Lucia & St. Vincent are also nice places. St. Lucia has a nice Friday night party in Gros Ilet every week. July is Carnival season, so there is plenty of cultural events going on throughout the island. St. Vincent has the main island as well as the Grenadines that you can tour. Check out the beaches in Bequia(also great for scuba diving) and Mustique (beautiful serene beaches, but rather expensive to stay at). Good luck:)
