Is it warm enough to vacation in South Padre Island in December?

I'm thinking of vacationing the week of Christmas in South Padre Island. I want to be able to swim and snorkel. Will it be too cold?

1. Daytime temperatures in South Texas can range anywhere from the 50's to the mid 80's in December. I've been in jeans and a heavy jacket one day and in shorts and t-shirts two days later. It all just depends. Water temps stay fairly constant and don't drop too much.
