Looking for vacation spot in the east (No florida)?

We are a family of 4 living on long island and want to drive somewhere on a tight budget as south as georgia, as west as tennessee, or as north as maine. We are going in july for a week. Every family member has a preference. Me (18, male)- i will go anywhere for any type of trip, but prefer a beach, but not necessary. Sister (20, female)- prefers a beach, does not like bugs (hiking) girly girl.. but we wouldnt mind hiking for a day where she could stay soemwhere else if she doesnt want to come. Dad (43)- does not want a place where beach is the only option because he doesnt like the beach much, wants hiking, scenary, or city, etc. Mom (42)- will do anything So basically the best spot would be a city of hiking area with a beach type place nearby any suggestions?

  1. lake placid new york theres alot to do there i have ben there i had fun
  2. You could go to Boston. Thats really fun and there is Whale watching and an aquarium. When I went we went up to Maine for the day and we were going to go to the beach but decided not to. I am pretty sure there has to be hiking somewhere near there. Maybe while the rest of your family is hiking your sister can hit the shops.
  3. If you will go to Maine you might as well discover the east coast of Canada. I am a Canadian who has been from coast to coast in Canada, and the people in the Maritime Provinces are the friendliest in the world. With the exchange rate on the dollar you will get more bang for your buck. I currently live on Vancouver Island and if you come west British Columbia is the place to go. Just some food for thought.
  4. San Diego, CA! You wouldn't even have to worry about snowy weather it never snows there.
