What are some good vacation spots on the East Coast (US)?

I live in NY (Queens/Long Island) and Im trying to find a vacation spot for my family (2 adults, 2 kids ages 9 boy&14 girl) for the spring break. I would like to go any where on the east coast preferably no more than 8hrs outside of the NYC. Please keep the locations moderately priced. **I also wanted to know if anyone has ever heard or been to a mall with a beach inside of it, I know it exist I saw it on the travel channel one day and it was a while ago and I don't remember its location if you know the name or location of this mall that would be great. = ]

2. Hampton...but its EXTREMELY expensive... baltimore's nice too
3. Cape Cod, MA Newport, RI Anywhere in upstate NY, maybe the Finger lakes Region
4. Have you been to Martha's Vineyard ? It's close to NY by boat or car (or plane) and has spectacular scenery and lots of activities. It has somewhat of a reputation for being pricey but you can visit on a budget. There are affordable inns and there's even a campground that has log cabins with bunk beds and refrigerators and electric outlets.
