Please give advice to 1st time travelers to Hawaii. What is the best way to book a multi island vacation?

We will be going to the islands of Oahu and Kauai May 24-31. Where should we stay? How long at each place? Any tips would be great! thanks

  1. If you haven't already booked your flights, I recommend booking all of them together as one multi-destination trip. Hawaiian Airlines offers that option, and there may be other airlines that do it too. It could save you some money versus booking separate flights, but look at both options and see which is currently cheapest. You didn't say how many of you there are. If you're a family or group of more than 2 I'd suggest looking at 2 and 3 bedroom condos. If you can get everyone in one condo it's cheaper than separate hotel rooms and Hawaii has lots of vacation condos.
  2. Most of the packages offered by tour groups are the best value. Most airlines offer packages as well. There are usually many options to choose from.
  3. There are a couple of great ways to do this. One way is to go to a travelagency (such as AAA) and book flights at one time as a tour. Then you can go fly to Oahu, Mauai, Kuai or the other islands using interisland flights. You can also book the hotels that way. Another great way for interisland vacations is to take a cruise. That's a great way to use a cruise ship as your 'floating hotel' ans still visit the islands. You can book the ship and the airfare at the same time.
  4. AAA is great as mentioned, or call a local agency such as Panda.
