Where is a good vacation spot?
I live on the East Coast and wanted to go away with my husband in August to celebrate our anniversary. We were looking at the Dominican Republic because I love the beach and warm water, and he loves golf. We both love spas, and resorts that are all-inclusive (food). i found out it will take forever to get our passports renewed, due to a huge backlog, and even the expedited process is taking forever.. I now want to find somewhere to go where we don't need a passport. Don't really want to do Vegas/Cali because it's a long plane ride for us from NJ. Anyone know of a romantic island-like setting closer to east coast/carribean like, all-inclusive resorts that you don't need a passport?

- Heven't you been reading or hearing the news???????? Homeland Security is suspending the passport requirement for US travellers to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Canada for the duration of the summer, as long as [the] travellers can show proof that a passport has been applied for.
- I was going to suggest Niagara in Ontario, especially in august as there are so many cool festivals in the area. There is of course Niagara Falls itself, two really nice casinos, if you show that you've at least applied for a pasport apparently you won't have trouble crossing the border. You could fly from wherever you are in NJ to Buffalo NY then cross the border with a picture id and document of citizenship. Niagara on the Lake is beautiful and has a very well known spa, White Oaks. NOTL is a very historical town, 18th C houses, incredible shopping. There are lots of great golf courses in the area in Niagara and loads of beaches along Lake Erie or if you go to Toronto , around Lake Ontario, although some may or may not be open if the weather has been bad that week. Toronto is only about 2 hours away from Buffalo, if you wanted to go there ,lots of theatre, concerts, festivals , great restaurants but Niagara is gorgeous in the summertime! Weather's usually temperate, although this year we've been hotter and more humid so far. Hope this helps. You might yahoo or google ontariotourism.com or .ca and they can tell you what's going on around the dates you'd like to go.
- I would suggest the Outer Banks, NC. There are no all inclusive resorts, but I love living here anyway!
