Is it hard to learn how to speak Greek?

I speak Spanish already, would it make it easier to learn? I'm planning to go vacationing next spring to the island of Mykonos. And I want to learn at least some Greek to get around. If so, is there any good FREE websites or even books (I'll buy those) that will teach me?

  1. im hispanic as well. Well... im part peruvian and part guyanese(west indian), and my girlfriend is greek. she tried to teach me some and i was lost within seconds lol
  2. i cant really tell you for real.. because i cant speak greek.. but all i know is that English is the most dificult language to learn.. because of all its rules in spelling and stuff like that..i think the only reason why greek might seem so hard is because u dont know how to speak it.. but i say you go for it.. check online look up for books..
  3. depending on you age the younger you learn it the better. my 7 year old sister is fluent in french and is taking spanish. my mom is fluent in spanish and french. i'm fluent in french so if ur in ur twenties or w/e you're probably gonna have a tough time
  4. I think you can. Just learn and pay attention carefully.
  5. I have no experience with Greek, but I've learned Esperanto, Spanish, and German from books & tapes. I didn't start learning foreign languages until I was 40. If I can do it, you can do it. Some general tips for learning languages: 1. Look at people's reviews on Amazon to determine what are some of the best courses. 2. Put aside 30 - 60 minutes per day and study some each day. 3. If you get discouraged, take a couple of days off, but set your next time to study and stick to it. If you go too long (say a week) between study sessions, you'll start forgetting. 4. Go into it realizing that you'll make lots of mistakes, don't worry about them and keep going. 5. Try to find someone better than you in the language to speak with. You can't learn to speak a language without speaking it. If you're trying to learn with someone else who is also learning, you'll lead each other into learning errors.
