Can A employer make an employee work over at very last minute before its time to clock out?

I work from 12:00 p.m to 8:30p.m my supervisor will come up to me at the last minute and tell me that I have to stay over because either I didn't get a job done, or because someone else didnt get there job done. and my supervisor makes everyone stay over. isnt there supposed to be a certain amount of time allowed for making an employee work over. like give an employee a 24 hour notice or something?

  1. no. It's reasonable for him to ask you to finish your job. (Unless it's hours and hours). How about a half hour before the end of your shift, you ask him if there's anything he'd like done before you leave.
  2. They cant do that. The only thing they can do is fire you for no reason at all.
  3. I hate to burst your bubble, but this is legal in some states. Check your employee handbook.
